Mak Project to Procure Pig Artificial Insemination Kits for 13 Districts

Makerere University's Department of Agricultural Production, College of  Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has placed an order to  procure 1000 Pig Artificial Insemination Catheters and 500 semen bottles which will be distributed to technicians in 13 districts .

The beneficiary districts are those practicing or in the process of practicing intensive pig rearing. They include Soroti,  Masaka, Luwero, Kamuli, Jinja, Gulu, Buikwe, Mpigi, Hoima, Mityana, Kiryandongo Lira and Mbale.

On completion of his five year tenure as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu in the evening hours of Thursday, 31st August 2017 handed over office to the next Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

Effective 1st September 2017, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe is the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University.

The Seventh International Training Course on (ICAT 7) was hosted by the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity from 7th to 25th August, 2017. This training was organized by Makerere University as part of the training courses developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Association against Trypanosomiasis in Africa (ATA) to meet the need in human resources to combat the disease in the field.

Africa Regional International Staff / Student Exchange

The Africa Regional International Staff / Student Exchange (ARISE) Programme invites applications from African nationals for a limited number of staff mobility scholarships. Permanent members of staff from ARISE partner universities are invited to apply for a minimum 1 month or maximum 3 months staff mobility at one of the six African partner universities. These scholarships will build capacity by facilitating specialist training for staff at partner institutions and advance knowledge through collaborative teaching and research.

New Makerere University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe Installed

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has been installed.

Prof. Nawangwe becomes the 11th Vice Chancellor of Makerere University since the University was established as an autonomous institution in 1970.

Nawangwe replaces Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu after expiry of his five year term of service from 1st September, 2012-31st August, 2017.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has today Friday 15th September 2017 handed over office as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) to Prof. William Bazeyo.

According to the Chairperson of Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, Prof. William Bazeyo with a track record in resource mobilization and frugal financial management will serve in this capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A).

29 Technicians from 16  districts of Uganda have completed a one week’s training  in different  aspects of  Pig Artificial Insemination (AI) at Makerere University  Agricultural Research Institute under  the project titled, “Improvement of Pig Productivity, Diversification of Piglet Nutrition Options and Upscaling of Pig Artificial Insemination in Uganda" (DIVERSE PIG project).

Her Excellency congratulated the Professor Nawangwe on his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the great institution. Professor Nawangwe welcomed her to the University and said, Makerere is currently ranked 4th in Africa’s top universities.
