The Regional Universities Forum for capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is working jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to implement an e-learning hub intended to facilitate access to e-learning resources on food, agriculture and sustainable development. The College of  Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Makerere University has today 10th August 2017 handed over the site for the construction of Post Graduate Laboratories at the Makerere University Agricultural Research Insititute Kabanyolo (MUARIK) to Excel Construction Company Ltd under the AfDB-HEST Project.

The project is estimated to cost US$ 1.2million and construction is expected to last nine (09) months, slated for completion in June 2018.

DIVERSE – PIG Phase II is an ongoing research project in the Department of Agricultural Production, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University funded by Competitive Grant Scheme, National Agricultural Research Organization. The project is organizing to train fifty (50) AI technicians from 12 districts in pig artificial insemination. The twelve districts are; Masaka, Kayunga, Lira, Gulu, Hoima, Jinja, Mityana, Mpingi, Mbale, Luwero, Soroti and Kiryandongo.

Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) on 12th August 2017 held the Kabanyolo Field day to mark the end of recess term activities for semester II of the 2016/2017 academic year. The Field Day enables students to practice and demonstrate skills acquired in class.

The function was attended by Makerere University staff, farmers from different parts of the district, surrounding community members, NAADS officials, Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) representatives among others.

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) organized and participated in the 2017 Global Workshop of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF). Held at the University of Maryland, the workshop was funded through a grant from USADF, a U.S. Government agency established to support African-owned enterprises, which improve lives in poor and vulnerable communities on the continent.

UN Women-RAN Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Call for Innovations August 2017

In partnership with UN WOMEN, ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) is implementing a project on equipping communities in Northern Uganda (Gulu and Kitgum Districts) and partners with skills directed towards the use of innovative approaches in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG).

This EVAWG challenge seeks to identify innovative solutions towards ending violence against women and girls. These can be initiatives or approaches with proof of sustainability and scalability starting with communities in Northern Uganda.

a) First Years

Every new student admitted to a programme of study of Makerere University was issued a provisional admission letter with fees structure for payment of requisite fees.

This will enable privately sponsored first year students pay 60% tuition and all functional fees before issuance of original admission letters which should be collected from the respective Colleges/Schools.

MUARIK Hosts 4th Farm Clinic on Five Enterprises

Director MUARIK, Prof. Phinehas Tukamuhabwa explains the importance of the Farm Clinic and how the institute has benefited, 26th August 2017, Makerere University, Wakiso Uganda.

On Saturday 26th August 2017, Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK) hosted the 7th Seeds of Gold Farm Clinic  and its 4th Farm Clinic focusing on  five enterprises namely Banana, Coffee, Piggery, Passion Fruit and Dairy farming.

The training is a partnership between MUARIK and the Monitor Publications Limited sponsored by subscription (Shs. 70, 000 per participant) and supported by both public and private  institutions such as Post Bank, Heifer International, aBi Trust and Counterfeit Network among others.
