The Africa Center of Excellence in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science at LUANAR (AquaFish ACE), in partnership with RUFORUM, earlier this month welcomed visiting professors from RUFORUM member universities in Nigeria, Tanzania, Sudan and Kenya. The visit was part of the Aquafish Staff Exchange Program aimed at improvingthe quality of postgraduate programmes at LUANAR.
Emmanuel Afutu, now with a new title added to his name ‘Doctor’, was ecstatic as he and his colleagues joined RUFORUM staff on 16th January 2018 during a lunch get-together organized at the Secretariat to honour the new PhD graduates. He was among the 13 RUFORUM-sponsored students who were conferred with Doctorates during the 68th Graduation Ceremony of Makerere University in Uganda, under PhD programmes of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology (PBB) and Agricultura

On 20th January 2016, the MasterCard foundation at Makerere University organized a flourish party for the First Cohort Scholars who graduated during the 68th Makerere University graduation. Ms. Anena Juliet, 23, a fourth year BSc. Agriculture student on Tuesday 30th January 2018 scooped a French scholarship award to study in France.
The French Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Stéphanie Rivoal awarded Anena the scholarship for her exemplary presentation skills on the tissue culture technology during the exhibition to mark the Campus France Uganda Launch at the Freedom Square.
Makerere University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (STDU), China, aimed at strengthening Uganda’s infrastructure development and transport technology capacity in the long run and facilitating student exchanges in the short run. On Wednesday 10th January, 2018 Prof. Tonny Oyana, Principal, College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) met with all Unit heads, academic and administrative staff of the College. Between 5th to 8th February 2018, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Union organized a kick-off meeting for the second cohort of Intra-Africa Mobility projects aimed at supporting mobility of MSc., PhD students as well as Academic and Administrative staff. Regarding application statistics: 72 proposals were submitted and received by EU; 4 were ineligible, hence 68 proposals evaluated and 7 were awarded funding.
Makerere University, with support from the Uganda-Sweden bilateral research cooperation, invites applications for Two (2) post-doctoral fellowships in Mathematics for the academic year 2018 - 2019. Accepted applicants will conduct their research at any of the five Swedish consortium universities including Linköping University, Mälardalen University, Stockholm University, The Royal Institute of Technology-KTH and Uppsala University. However, under special circumstances, accepted applicants may conduct their research in other universities.
