This was at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Network Meeting for Sida and ISP-Funded PhD Students and Postdocs in Mathematics; held on Monday 20th August 2018 at Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel Entebbe, Uganda. The meeting was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe represented by the Director of Research and Graduate Training Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Prof. William Bazeyo has appealed international students to embrace the students-management open door policy that allows students to interact freely with Makerere University Management. This was during the Orientation Meeting for Makerere University international students of Academic Year 2018/2019. Addressing over 200 students on 20th August 2018, Prof. William Bazeyo said students should be free to meet any member of the University Management in case they need help.
Agro Supply Uganda Wins Best Startup at Seedstars Kampala 2018
On 24th August 2018, during Seedstars Kampala, Agro Supply Uganda Limited won the Uganda round of Seedstars World and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to USD 1 million in equity investment.
Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, brought its Uganda round to a successful close during Seedstars Kampala. The event took place at Outbox Hub, and ten selected startups were invited to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.
Mak Students Win Accountability Sector Debate
Makerere University students have emerged winners in the Accountability Sector Debate that attracted participants from both public and private universities in Uganda.
Eight (8) Universities presented candidates to compete in the Accountability Sector Debate, which was aimed at promoting dialogue among the youth on matters of accountability, and interesting them in advocating for accountability.

The Director of Research and Graduate Training, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi has appealed to Makerere University Graduate students to develop their networks and heighten their research skills. This was during the Makerere University Graduate Student’s Orientation that was held on 24th August 2018 in the Big Lab 2 of Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences. Over 3000 students were admitted at Makerere University on the graduate programme for the academic year 2018/2019.
Mak Acquires US$ 3 million Modern Poultry Unit Funded by KOICA IBS Program
Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has opened up a modern poultry unit at the Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK) worth US$ 3 million.
70% of this budget is funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and another 30% by Eagle Vet. Additionally, Shinhan A-Tech is funding 30% of the horticultural enterprise.

23 Public Private Partnership Students Complete Course at CEDAT
About twenty-three students completed a rigorous two-week short course on Public Private Partnership conducted at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. The students, who were drawn from UNRA, NITA, Mulago Hospital and other private organizations successfully completed the course on 30th August, 2018.

MaRCCI Set to Receive Gates Foundation US$565,026 to Promote Cassava Breeding
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has injected US$565,026 (approx UGX2.1bn) into Makerere University’s Regional Centre for Crop improvement (MaRCCI) to promote cassava breeding in addition to similar efforts in cowpea and sorghum. The funds will be channeled through the Cornell University under the next generation cassava project.
Dr. Richard Edema the Director MaRCCI confirmed this and said that the funds are part of the second phase of funding to MaRCCI from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Netball America boss Sonya Ottaway says that for that reason they will use the forthcoming World University Netball Championships as a development project.
