Deputy Chief Justice Rallies Behind the School of Law 50-year Celebrations

The Supreme Court of Uganda will host a Student Moot Competition as one of the activities organized to celebrate 50 years of the School of Law, Makerere University.

The Moot that will be presided over by Seven Supreme Court Judges will be hosted by Makerere University and will be one of the milestones marking the required collaboration between the Judiciary and the Academia.

On the Friday afternoon of September 14th, 2018, Assoc. Prof. Nazarius Mbona Tumwesigye stepped down as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics which is in Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), paving way for Assoc. Prof. Noah Kiwanuka to succeed him. The well-attended ceremony which took in MakSPH Boardroom had a representative from the University administration, the Dean of MakSPH, Assoc. Prof. Rhoda Wanyenze , and representatives of the Chairs of the other departments in MakSPH.

The Makerere University Council, Senate, Management, Alumni and the entire University community has learnt with great shock of the untimely death of Dr. Moses Kizza Musaazi, which occurred on Tuesday, 18th September 2018.

Our heartfelt consideration goes out to the family upon the loss of a loving Husband, Father, Mentor, Son and dear friend. Please accept our sincere condolences. We commit you to God our Father, who alone knows the plans He has for each and every one of us.

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

USA are yet to win from four matches, but that is not about to dampen their spirits.

They have exhibited remarkable improvement after every game and almost even pulled off a win against Kenya Wednesday.

At one point, they led before eventually succumbing to a fourth defeat in the third World University Netball Championships at Makerere.

Makerere University’s prolific Plant Breeder Prof. Phinehas Tukamuhabwa has won the Biotechnology Award 2018 during the first Annual Biotechnology Awards ceremony by the Uganda Biotechnology and Biosafesty Consortium (UBBC) on Wednesday, 19th September 2018.

The award is in honor of his immense contribution to socio- economic development through biotechnology, scientific research and innovations.

Students of Makerere University cheered on Team USA as they registered their first win against Singapore at the 3rd FISU WUNC2018 on Day4 Thursday, 20th September 2018, Kampala Uganda.

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

USA registered their first ever win at the World University Netball Championship on Day 4, Thursday 20th September 2018 by beating Singapore.

The Americans, losers of all their matches in the first two editions of the biennial competition, took on Singapore after four consecutive losses in Kampala event hosted by Makerere University.

Then team captain Amara Mbionwu led her side to their best ever performance.

Hosts Uganda made a late recovery to upset favourites South Africa in the World University Netball Championship.

Uganda edged the Spar Proteas 44-43 in the final minutes of the tension packed final at Makerere University’s new indoor facility.

Towering goal shooter Mary Nuba was the day’s heroine as she made the decisive shot that gave Uganda the title.

Makerere University’s Senior nutritionist Prof. Archileo Kaaya has been selected for the African Union (AU) Award 2018 as an Agent of change for Aflatoxin Control in Africa by the Third Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA). Prof. Kaaya will be recognized during the Third PACA Partnership Platform Meeting to be held from 2nd to 4th October 2018, in Dakar, Senegal.
