The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for a one-week training programme in Public Health in Complex Emergencies (PHCE) that will take place from 2nd to 7th November, 2020.

The goal of the course is to enhance the capacity of humanitarian assistance workers and their organisations to respond to health needs of refugees and displaced persons affected by these emergencies.

Kampala, Uganda | DAILY MONITOR | A research laboratory at Makerere University College of Veterinary Medicine (CoVAB) has discovered various forms of coronaviruses in samples collected from bats in the country.

Prof. Denis Byarugaba, the lead research scientist at the laboratory, while addressing a public dialogue on Coronavirus in Kampala on Friday last week, said they had been doing a number of tests in the past years that detected the virus in common species that live with people.

This afternoon, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda who is also Visitor Makerere University, Gen. Dr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered the closure of all Schools, Universities and Tertiary Institutions for a period of one month. This was necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This move is to help stem the spread of the virus and to save lives. Makerere University welcomes this move.

All Staff & Students of Makerere University

Reference is made to the communication from the Chairperson of Council Ref. 0301.00 declaring Makerere University closed for 30 days with effect from 20th March 2020.

A special meeting of the University Top Management was held on Friday 20th March 2020 to consider the closure guidelines in view of the President’s directive and the formal closure of the University by the Chairperson of Council.

The World Health Organization declared Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic that is rapidly spreading across the globe. The global count by the time of writing stood at over 1.2 Million COVID-19 confirmed cases, with Fifty-Two (52) in Uganda. Critical COVID-19 cases once hospitalized and placed in the Intensive Care Unit for management require a respiratory assistive technology known as a Ventilator.
